IH parts CD ROMS

Does anyone have and use the reissued IH parts CDs from Case/IH?
Such as the following:
Tractors under 100 HP #1 Customer Parts Catalog - Part Number 87399227:

If so could you please answer the following question.
When using the parts CD can one search on a part number and locate all the tractors that use that part number? Looking for a way to determine what tractors use the same part(interchange)without having to look up each model individually on Case/IH website for the part numbers.

Having a way to determine what tractors use the same part numbers would be a tremendous help as often spend hours looking up what part fits what.

I know the dealer can do this and has at time helped me out but would really like to do it myself since I need it on a regular basis.

I bought the CD shortly before CaseIH went online, making the CD useless. I don't think you can do what you want with either. You might try www.external_link, as they allow you to enter a part number, but I have not used it much, it is a little different than the CaseIH site.

What I was trying/hoping to find is a way take a part number and cross it with tractors that used that part number.

We mainly need it for the row crops and small sub 40HP mid 70s and older Farmalls and Internationals.

Was hoping the CD had a search function that would show what tractors used a specific part number without having to search each individual tractor.

The dealers system can show you every machine that uses a specific part number.

Would you happen to know what type of files the CD contains? Are they PDF's (opens in Adobe Reader)? If they are PDF type files it may be possible to merger them into one huge file and search it to determine which machine use a specific part.

Also would you be interested in selling you CD? I need the under 100hp 2wd tractor CD. If so please let know the price.

Thank you for your reply

I've had a parts CD for several years. It has its own software and is copy protected to keep you from copying it. Maybe a good computer expert could do it, but I have not been able to. The software does not allow searching the entire disk for a part number to find out all the tractors that use that part. You must first select the tractor or engine and then search for the part. If you are in the parts business, it would be very handy to have a way to search all the CD at once to find if a part fits several tractors. I suspect though the search would be very slow unless you have a way to load the CD onto a hard disk or into RAM.

Thats what I needed to know, thanks for the info.

If I ever find a parts CD reasonable I would like to have one.

Thanks again for the info.....

The CD is the same as what's on the web site, far as I can tell. They are not PDF files. If you installed the CD on your computer, the only difference that you will notice is that the CD is slower. I'm going to keep mine in case I need it if the web site is down for some reason, or my internet provider has problems, etc. I really do not think you are going to be able to do your comparisons until (if and when) CaseIH improves their website. But, try www.external_link, I don't think they do either, but you can search for a part number, don't remember if the CIH site allows that.
