560 implement size

10 foot is about all my 666 wants here in our KY silt or clay loam. Ground is not the same everywhere.

I once seen a John Deere 2520 pulling a 5 bottom plow in south eastern Nebraska and a 3 bottom will give a 2520 fits here in KY. Most surely will NOT pull 4 or 5 here.

I would get a 10 foot tandem. If you get bigger it's hard to make it smaller and a 10 footer is a good days work for a 560.

Dad pulled a 12' Kewanee and a 3x16" plow in NE Iowa with a 460 gas. Know guys that pulled 14 or 15' discs in that area with a 560. The Kewanee was not a real heavy disc, just average.

Same here. It ain't happening with a 2520. Late into plowing season the 2520 I had would not pull 3 in sod ground.

The one I seen in NE was plowing bottom land in milo stubble on the Little Blue River. He was doing a fair job so I figured the ground must have been loose.

John: Anyone telling you they pull larger than a 12' tandem wheel controlled disk with a 560, is pulling a worn out disk. Personally if it were me I'd go 10' with 18" or 20" blades, you know your going to pull it in heavy conditions, cutting as deep as you wish.

I had a 10', pulled it behind my 560 or 656 for years. I also pulled a 12.5' vibra shank cultivator. Difference being I have seen the disk take me to 2nd gear, however usually 3rd gear, whereas cultivator was 3rd and 4th.

Depends on how heavy the disc is. We pulled an older 10' IH tandem ( No ball bearings) with our 350. Once used the neighbors 12;IH tandem with the ball bearings. pulled it good.

my 560D (not turned up) doesn't even know my 10' IH #37 is back there... Even with the gangs full forward and back and the wheels off of the ground... 3rd gear, TA forward, Idle to WOT... doesn't matter...

Pulled a 14' in SE Michigan Lake Erie Clay most of it's life... and a 4-16" 412 semi-mount... Was turned up as far as she'd go with the stock pump in those days...

Have had her and the 412 since new in '63...

To add to my earlier post, I worked on a western SD ranch when I was in the Air Force (summer of 1964). Had a gas 450 and pulled either a 14 or 15' with the 450. They also had a diesel 350, but mostly used it with a loader and a bale stacker (picked up 8 bales behind a baler and Farmhand accumulator).
