Shot the 2150 paint on my M a day or two ago. This A.M. I used a spray can of Case-IH 2150 to touch up places I couldn't reach with my spray gun and when I went back later to look things over, everywhere I applied the spray can paint the gun paint was loose and curled as if it had been covered with paint remover. Has anyone else had this experience with this paint? I have shot several tractors with the "old" IH 2150 and used their spray cans for touchup with no problems.

Seems the paint was not cured fully. Or there was a temp imbalance between the base, spray can, and air temp. What and how much thinner or reducer did you use?

Bert I had the same experience when I painted a 400 hundred farmall. I accindently knocked one of the hood panels of a table in which I had painted them on a week ago. I put some scratches in the hood so I decided I would wet sand and repaint with spray can instead of getting spray gun back out and having to clean it up again. Well after painting with the spray can it looked like I had sprayed paint remover on it instead bubbled up and made a big mess and still had to get the spray gun out.

If you Read the Directions on the Can. They tell you that you should paint coats within so many hours or After 48 Hours if memory serves me Correct!

Cliff is correct. In addition, some paints do not have a recoat interval, meaning they must be fully cured before recoating or touching up. (Don't confuse that statement with the initial application -- that is the initial coats of paint should be applied a few minutes apart, not hours). The formulation of the rattle can paint and the spray gun type may also be different. 2150 is usually good paint. However, I have heard a few comments lately about inconsistencies between batches.

-To all who responded: charles todd-you are probably right about the curing. As to temperature-shop heated to 75 degrees so paint should have been about that temp.farmhand-I feel there is something different about this paint. When mixed 8 to 1 it seems much thinner than the "old" 2150.El Toro-I didn't check the can for lacquer, just assumed paint was the same. I have never had this happen on the other Farmalls I've painted.CliffS-Yes, I read the directions on the can prior to spraying. No mention of when to apply on my can. CNKS-gun coat applied Friday afternoon in a heated shop with drying fans running. Base coat "felt dry"--probably didn't wait long enough for the paint to cure. Thanks to all for your responses.

PS for charles todd--used VM & P Naphtha reducer-ratio 8 parts paint to 1 part reducer. This formulation has always worked well for me in the past. Thanks

Dr Bert, You need a miniature HVLP spray gun like this for hard to reach areas. It won't be very heavy since the cannister doesn't hold much paint. I bought a kit from Northern Tool 5 or 6 years ago and this small gun came with a larger gun and cannister. The regulator can be used on both guns. Hal
