Purolator Oil Filter

For some reason, I thought you could take the screen off the center stud [on a 1929 22-36] and slip a paper filter [same size as a MD I was thinking] over it instead; however, when I was cleaning it up, I realized this one had the plunger going through the center [with a T-handle on top of the whole assembly].

Is there a filter that works with this or maybe a ready rod that makes a good substitute. Maybe I'm imaging the whole paper conversion without a new housing in the first place?  With the mix of new, NOS, original and salvage parts in there I'd like to use a paper filter during break-in.

No, I still don't even have the head on it; but closer all the time! 8)

I'll have to download the camera again to get some pictures from inside the filter, but one of the disassembly pictures had a nice angle showing the T-handle on top.
