Water pump leak

I noticed a little water on one of my front tires of my H. In searching for the source I seen a drop of anti freeze on the fan shaft, in front of the fan. My shop manual has some pretty poor pictures. It lists a packing nut and packing. Does anyone know if I can just tighten the packing nut and solve this problem? How much of a problem is it to replace the packing and does anyone have a part number and a site that has a good picture?

I would feel of the impeller shaft, if it seems tight, try tightening the packing nut. If it bottoms out you can add more packings while on tractor but it is not fun. Case IH can get still get them, or graphite some heavy cord and use that.
 
Thanks for the reply. That's what I was wondering if it was something special or a rope packing. I have some 3/16 Teflon rope packing
 
Thanks for the info, it has been awhile since I greased it, but I don't run it much. I have to replace the rear wheel seals and paint it and I'll be done. Not looking forward to that, but I been dragging this restore out for about three years now.
