Serial Plate Model# 15-30s

A bit premature for this, but since I had to order a float and needle valve, got the serial plate in the same shipment.

It seems to me that a 1929 serial plate should read Model [b:ea3e01774b]15-30[/b:ea3e01774b] with the drawbar rating of [b:ea3e01774b]22[/b:ea3e01774b] and the belt rating of [b:ea3e01774b]36[/b:ea3e01774b] rather than [b:ea3e01774b]22-36[/b:ea3e01774b] as the model.

Am I wrong, right, or half right and they switched it around 1931 or so? Also was the model number stamped like the rest or was the model number intrinsic of the plate?

Just curious as it may be mute anyway: the combination of factory and 'historical' features on this would almost make 22-36 as appropriate even if it was never used by the factory. OTOH, I'm sure I could exchange it for a 15-30 plate if appropriate.

Finally, if everyone is stumped, I do know of an early '29 less than a hour away that has the plate, but I forget to snap a picture and can't recall the details.

Had to go into town today, so made a detour answering my own question; covering at least the first 10,000 anyway. I could still be off regarding anywhere on the last 40,000.

I agree with you on serial plate my 22-36 plate is like the one pictured under the belly it was cast 2-15-1929. Keep haveing fun.

IHC never called them 22-36s on the plate as the model. They were always Model 15-30 rated 22-36HP. If somebody is making them that way I think they are wrong!

I just recieved one from The Fordson House; it is the two rivet plate, but looks exactly like the four rivet one Rice has pictured - and has [b:eebf19f79a]22-36 [/b:eebf19f79a]in the Model box.

Not that I'm trying to be a purist [I'm glad some people are, and I'm glad I'm not quite that specific] here; the more modern layout doesn't even bother me, but I just couldn't imagine it reading 22-36, especially in 1929 [half the tractors of it's rating].

yes, Rice's are wrong. never been impressed with any of his tags. Dr. Robert Deiner in Morgantown WV makes the best tags HANDS DOWN!!

not to be a naysayer, but there is nothing wrong with your tag at all. i think if you were to replace it with a new one (thats wrong) it would be an injustice to the tractor!!

If the tag was on either my tractor, or the neighbors' I'm working on now, I'd certainly keep it with the tractor and not even consider a new one. Unfortunately neither one exists. I took the picture on a different tractor not too far away.

Never talked to Dr. Deiner; thanks for the lead! I'm not sure my neighbor won't prefer the 22-36 model tag, so it may be mute in the immediate future; however, I don't want it on mine [unfortunately on the "someday list"].
