Super MD again...

This is what im currently at right now with it. I checked flow to the injectors. good, got 60+ pounds at the pump, good. pulled the front timing cover of the injector pump and it was pointing to the left of "0" i put it back on zero and it smoked reallllly bad, put it 4 notches clockwise of "0" and it runs better (is that bad to have it so far over?), no smoke or missing etc... However it still will not idle right. Im wondering if the initial pump was put on wrong in the first place? i have the manuals for them but they are unclear how to initially time the pump. How do i know what cylinder the pump is on? is there a dot or something on the gears to line them up properly? I would just like to rule that out as a possible problem for the no idling. Thanks guys for all the help on this project!
