Somebody stop her

I'll let her know I'd like to help her out because I love the old iron. I don't want her to sell short, but more importantly, I don't want the scrappers to pick them up.

Do you think that's a good move on my part? I don't want to be intrusive.

Well, I called her.

She knows what they are worth, but she wants to get them moving, that's why she is selling them so cheap. But she won't sell to scrappers she says. Good.

So, I am going to go visit her this weekend with my camera. I'll talk to her, take lots of pictures, and I'll report back.

Maybe I can get some deals worked out for some of you fella's.

I agree with Gordo... get up there and check it out. I'm 3.5 hours north otherwise I'd jump in the truck and blaze a trail.
Hi Andy! Is there anything you are after in particular? If you e-mail me your phone number I can call you from down there on the spot, provided I have coverage.

my e-mail: weare DOT mikenjen AT comcast DOT net

I hope Greg from NorCal sees this as well. Anyone else from California interested?

Thanks Mike, I can"t think of any parts off the top of my head but I"m sure I"ll remember before the weekend. I"m with you and the other fellas... hate to see them go to a scrapper. Plus, we have the tractor show in mid April.

I"ll shoot you an email tomorrow.

Andy

I'd love to see what she has. Looking for implements more than anything, not to say I don't want more tractors... Just gotta prioritize. I just moved to north Ca.

That doesn't look like Bakersfield to me. I remember flat cotton country and feed lots. Heading west out of town, the land rises evenly and supports oranges and walnuts. Apparently the warm valley air rises and floods the orchards with warm air at night. Of course that didn't work too well in 2007. Lots of freeze damage and not many of those great CA navel oranges hit the market here in the north east.

On another point, the prices she is asking is way over the current scrap value. I am sure she will settle for less.

Looks like the low hills around here, with rock outcroppings and such.

I thought scrap was $300 a ton? Not the case any more?

$300/ton?

That was last summer. Like most assets, scrap has declined steeply. I doubt if the local scrap dealer is paying more than $75/ton. And what is it going to cost you to deliver it? All metals except gold have tanked since July/August. Gold did take a hit but has since recovered.

Hey Mike, I tried sending you an email this morning, but you must have changed your address. I've turn on my email link, please contact me before you visit the lady with the tractors.

Regards,
Greg

Ahh, I didn't know that. Hadn't heard anything, but makes a lot of sense.

I guess that's good news for anyone trying to preserve old iron. So what you say about her being able to fiddle with the price is reasonable.

Thanks Wardner.

Just west of Yreka Mike. Prettiest place I've ever been. Ya get a long weekend, ya oughta drive up. Don't tell anyone about it though, I wanna keep it all to myself. Guess I'd better change my screen name now, I'm never leaving here.
