Float level for 10-20 Ensign Carb

My 28 10-20 has been getting harder to start when warm and when it does start, it seems as though it's flooded. Starts fine when cold, and once it's running, hot or cold, it doesn't miss a lick. None of my manuals have a float level setting. It does have a cork float.
 

My book says between 7/16 & 15/32 when the fuel bowl is held upside down.

However, depending upon it's condition I have to suspect that's a bit arbitrary. I just ordered a metal one from Fordson House for a 22-36 last week; they noted that the additives in today's gasoline are eating up cork floats if not sealed [they'll attach and seal a cork one, if you send them your float lever], so you might have some interesting things going with it.
 
Thanks, spiffy1. I was afraid something like that was happening. I'm careful to NOT get ethanol fuel for any of the "old Timers", but as you said, there can be other additives out there doing the same thing. I have a 15-30 that I havent run in a decade, so I'm going to check Fordson House to see if they'd have floats for both carburetors.
 
Don't bother setting float to the spec sheet you get with new float, it is wrong. Here is the good news! There is a line machined around the inside of the fuel bowl, That is where you set the float to! It will run like a top if set to that line.
 
Gordon Rice told me his new cork floats are compatible with alchohol in gas. The old ones are coated with shellac and shellac dissolves in alchohol and the float sinks. The new ones are coated with a modern gas sealant and worked fine for me. Brass may be a different level. Only thing I could say there is try different settings till you find the right one.
