water in oil in my super a

It was bound to happen... I was out dragging my pastures with my Super A this evening. My son is going to pick up where I left off tomorrow, but isn't so reliable(teenager). I checked the oil, and there"s water in it. The tractor has been using water for the last couple of years due to a leaky radiator. Apparently, some of it is going where it shouldn't. I drained a good bit into the can I cover the exhaust with, and it's just as gray and foamy as you please. I also noticed a very slight oil leak between the head and block just behind the carb. My question is this: Is there anything other than a head gasket that would cause this? Does the water in oil/ oil leak outside point towards a bad head gasket?
Somebody please tell me that"s all it is!

Checked the oil in a 140 2 weeks ago and it looked like mayonase. Then I drained about a pint of water from oil drain plug. Changed the head gasket and problem solved. Wire brushed the head while off to check for cracks but there were none. I bet your head gasket is shot. Get a new one and check the head while off.

If nothing else is obvious, head gaskets are a great place to start. Not that much labor in putting one on, and you can check your valve lash while you are in there.

If that doesn't solve it, your problem is deeper in the block or head. Neither is a pleasant fix or cheap.

It may just be a failed head gasket. My Super A also had water in the crank case oil pan, which was caused by a water leak between block and sleeve (at the bottom of the sleeve where the O-ring is).

Guys- Thanks for the replies. I'm praying it's only the head gasket. I'll get a head gasket, pan gasket, valve cover gasket, oil filter, etc. Thanks for the valve lash advice. Anything else I can check while I've got her opened up?
