756 CUSTOM ?

I've not seen a 756 custom but we did sell some 856 customs. They just left off a few little things to allow them to sell tractor for less, like smaller fuel tank, one aux hyd, battery covers were just a angle iron , no shield around hydraulic lever mechanism under seat and most important and foolish, single element air filter which we ended up replacing anyway.

stripped down unit. I know Oliver and JD did it too. I guess there used to be competition on who could sell a cheaper tractor. Where'd that thought process go?

We have a 756 German Diesel Custom and it is a very good and simple tractor. I guess the only options it doesn't have that I notice next to our 1256 is: It doesn't have tilt steering or hydralic seat. It has dual pto and dual hydralics. The battery covers or trays are no different than any other 56 series tractors I have seen. I don't know about the fuel tank but it is smaller than or 1256 but that is expected.

Like I said, never saw a 756 custom but am familiar with 856. Just checked parts manual, it used smaller fuel tank, (from 765 ) single element air filter canister, and not the full battery covers used on other models. Would doubt 756 would use a smaller fuel tank but parts manual shows different number for air filter assembly and shows the simple battery hold down also. The idea like said was to sell tractor a few bucks cheaper to compete.

The "Custom" models were not as fully equipped as the "Farmall" designated models, therefore they were sold at a lower price.
Custom models had fenders. One headlight in the fenders. No rear work light, only a red tail light and amber flashing light. Not equipped with ether starting aid. Mounting step and grab handle on left side only. One auxiliary hydraulic valve with two simple connectors on the rear ( no check valves or breakaway connectors ).No sheet metal hydraulic valve coverings in front of or in back of the seat. No full coverage battery covers. Never had hydraulic adjustable seat or tilt steering wheel. Three point hitch or two point fast hitch ( whichever dealer ordered ). Two speed PTO and TA were usually standard equipment on Customs , however they could have been ordered without ( as any Farmall model could have been ). Clamp type rear wheels ( no wedge locks ).Commonly equipped with 9.5L-15 front tires and 16.9-34 rears, however one could have other size tires depending on dealer order.
The above descriptions are as the tractor came from the factory. If you see a "Custom" model with anything more than the "bare bones" equipment listed above, someone added it at a later date.

I have one with over 12,000 hrs. on it. It is a good mid-sized tractor.
I also have 856 Custom.
