Bought this 49 H. Tried to start it belt to belt off of my CC Case. The H hummed like a sewing machine, and built 40% pressure, but not hardly a pop, and when there finally was a pop, it was soft. I had the mag checked, and its fine. I put a screwdriver into a plug wire and held it close to bare metal and saw fire. I put new plugs in it, and gapped them to 25. Whats your thoughts. The oval box dosent have a knob for light density as my dads 48 had. And, the push pull shitch is mounted in the box instread of away below it. And it has a up/down/ flip switch I dont remember my dads haveing for the mag kill. I think his had a distributor, but that was 50 yrs ago. Sprayed the carb with either but not a pop or nothing. hardly. Havnt done anything yet to the carb. Gonna order a kit Mon

The switch is not stock. Make sure it is a grounding switch, not power. Timing is everything. I would have you look back in the archives for timing a Mag. Does it have suction on the carb intake when turning? Are you sure you are turning it so the fan sucks air through the radiator (just a thought on the beltup) JimN

I am 61 ands have been starting tractors that way for 40 yrs. I had a 1/2 twist on the belt makeing both pulleys turn clockwise. Yes, I think the carb had suction, as when I stopped it, the gas/spray would come out of the carb.

I believe! The next step after making sure the timing is on, is to do a compression check. Stuck open intake valves, would act like that. JimN

read what u wrote then THINK!!! u had a twit in belt meaning the 2
pulleys HAD TO be turning opposite directions. then u went on to
say that the gas sprayed out the CARB when stopped. you're
turning the engine backward any way u read it. ha ha lol!

Wrong. If the two tractors are facing each other, then there has to be a twist in the belt for both pulleys to turn the same way. HAW-HAW.

Think he was saying it was showing 40 lb. of oil pressure when turning. It wouldn't have if turning the wrong way.

AND, If it shows 40# pressure, dosent that mean it has good compression?? As to the firing order. I started #1 in the top outside hole, and went around clockwise, 1342

Im told this is a 48. The serial number is FBH- 303902XI. Does this tractor have band brakes yet or disc??

I don't think oil pressure is going to tell you anything about cylinder pressure/compression. Is that what you were asking a post back?

haw haw yourself. you're an idiot there CANT be a twist if u want
them to both turn clockwise or both turn counterclockwise, i.e. the
same direction. obviously its a waste of time trying to fix stupid so
PEACE OUT moron. if you were to put a twist in your bicycle chain
u think u'd still travel FORWARD when pedaling FORWARD wtf?

There is an old saying "Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." Words you should learn to follow. You are forgetting the simple fact that to belt 2 tractors together, one has to face the other. Anybody that thinks about it for a minute would realize that reverses the direction of one pulley relative to the other. Anybody that actually tried to do it would very quickly learn that the twist is needed.
