Noisey Rearend

My SAV has a very noisey rearend.In road gear it is embarrassing to hear. Sounds like it is coming from the left side. What is the likely cause and how difficult is it to repair?

I feel like a broken record, but these old tractors are very well-designed and robust and do not have any true weak points. But, they are 50, 60, 70 years old, and things wear out. So, it could be anything.

First off you need to describe it as more than just "a noise." What does it sound like?

It could be something as simple as loose lug bolts, or bearings, or gears.

I would remove the pan on the bottom drain and refil with some 150wt.

The A's SA's and B's all make a lot of noise even when new. The gears would "sing" espacially when in a higher gear. There may not be anything wrong.
