Tractor Hours

Now, ya know I just had to do this to prove a point. :>)

There is a big blizzard coming, I'm out of feed so hauled in hay today; five miles per load and was running right at 1600 to 1800 rpm most of the time in third and fourth Hi on the 1066.

Only time I slowed the engine was to load and unload which takes right at a minute each direction.

Never stopped, never shut the tractor off; just hauled load after load, after load until I was finished.

Exactly four hours and forty-five minutes on my wristwatch. 2.9 hours on the tractor. :>)

I'm thinking those tach/hr meters are calibrated
at pto speed. 2250 or so would give you and hour. 1125 mnight give you 1/2 hour. Wouldn't that be the proper indication. I know the hour meter does't move if you just turn on the ignition and don't start the tractor.

Yes Sir, That's my point.

In order to get the "hour for an hour", ya have to be continually balls to the wall.

Plus, the human mind has a way of foolin' ya. Ya think, "I worked 12 hours today, so there must be 12 more hours on the tractor". Not so.

Almost impossible to do unless the tractor is setting on an irrigation pump or some such thing.

Allan: That proves that at 66, your just like me, no longer capable of keeping up with a big tractor. haha

Seriously, on a job hauling hay like you were doing 2.9 clock hours in 4 hours 45 minutes sounds right to me. You can't be in bad shape for your age.

The old ones are kinda nice that way. I used to be able to feed cattle all winter with the 706 with a bit over 100 hours on the clock. Now with the real time electric clock in the one I use now it takes nearly 250 hours to do the same job. I guess thats why I change the oil in the older red ones at 100 hours and the electric green ones get the oil changed at 250 hours. My old 706 gasser has 6500 hours on it, just imagine the real time hours on it.
