hydro 70 transmission swap

I have Hydro 70 with a bad transmission. What would it take to switch it over to a standard transmission? What tractors would interchange?

656-666-686. Lots of parts to change . Whole center section and transmission , dash shifter linkage flywheel clutch pressure plate . Lots of work .

That would be a real major project. Whole power train is different including flywheel on back to differential. Not sure if rear housing would even work as suction tube is different and not sure of bolt pattern to bolt on a torque amplifier housing. Then you would have mechanical and hydraulic connections difference also. The 656 is the forerunner to the 70 and the 666 and 686 are same vintage.

Lyndell: You may as well park or part that. I have my doubts if you can use anything from flywheel to crown and pinion including the castings.

If your Hydro is a diesel, you might pickup a 656, 666 or 686 gasser a bit on the lame side and do a diesel transplant. 666 would be the best one. If your Hydro is a gasser I wouldn't spend a cent. You do have some decent parts to sell.

Thanks for the response to my question about swapping tranny in my hydro 70. Not what I wanted to hear, but I'm glad I found out. Next question;--what tractors would my engine fit. It is a diesel in excellent condition. I know where I could buy a 806 with a bad motor. Also what about a 966,1066, 1466 etc I know I wouldn't have as much horsepower, but would it bolt up?

Lyndell: That 312 engine would bolt up to any 06, 56, 26, 66 or 86 series. There will be varying degrees of modification required. Your not going to get big longterm power compared to a 1066 or 1466. You'll also have a far more troublesome chassis, in a large chassis tractor, just monitor YT for a few weeks, see who and what tractors are the problem questions.

The direct bolt up will be to 656, 666 or 686 and power will be well matched to chassis. About the most common question we hear about 656, 666 and 686, "are these a good tractor".
