IH disc harrow

I have an old drag type 6 foot disc harrow. Was wondering if anyone might possibly know what model it might be so I can look up parts. Has notched blades in front and smooth in back. Needs new bearings. Will I have to go to CaseIH or will they be available at a bearing distributor? Thanks a lot.

Just go to some place like Purvis Bearing, or whoever is in you area. Take the old bearing. Try not to destroy it or at least the # on it so they can match it up.

Most old drag disk don't even really have bearings. Just a boxing around an axle. Needs lots of grease. Would help to see a pic.

I haven't seen the wooden blocks like Gene mentioned, those would be VERY old. I have seen the box that George mentioned, they were on a 6 foot tandem disk my dad bought in the 50's. I seriously doubt if you can still buy those, could be wrong.

ih made several different models but they made millions of the model 9A. a 9A should have cast iron bearings. the cast is softer than the steel but last a lot longer than maple bearings. i don't know if they are available or not.

If it has the saw tooth latch for pitch adjustment, that is with a rope the pitch could be adjusted from the tractor seat, it was a 50's IH harrow and I don't know the model. We had one that we wore completely out. It did have iron bearings as described above requiring lots of grease. You probably will end up replacing the entire axel, disk and bearings with a new set including sealed bearings if the old ones don't work.

Yes, it has the rope and ratcheting angle system. I don't use it much. Just thought I'd get it out someday and see if I can fix it up a little. Thanks.
