Disassembly of Temperature Gauge

I need to remove the temperature gauge out of my Super C. Can the lead be removed from the back of the gauge or is it a complete unit?

Complete unit. Tube is sealed soldered and filled with gas.

Why is there a nut in the back of the gauge where the lead fastens?

If you pry the bezel off of the gauge and remove the glass, then take off the nut at the back, the "innards" will then fall out the front of that gauge. Of course, the nut and capillary tube won't pass through the hole!
