I was wondering if my 1940 H will have freeze plugs? I need to take one out because i'm looking to put a heater in it and want to know if it had the plugs?

I never checked mine before. Ijust came back in after looking and I did'nt see one, unless there is one on the back of the head. If there is'nt one you can put on a tank heater. Just plumb in one between the engine block drain and the temperature sending unit pickup on the head(I think it's on the head, I've haven't had a chance to look yet,I'm new at this). That is what I'm planning to do.Good luck

How about one of those heaters in the lower radiator hose? That's what we used at work when we tested hydraulic systems in our "cold room". We didn't care if the engine was warm as long as the hydraulic system was cold. We could go down to -60 degrees, but usually not more than -20 or -30. Then when we were done with testing, all we had to do was replace the lower hose.

There are no freeze plugs. A tank type engine heater is the only way.

I have seen a few head bolt heaters but I sure don't where where you could get a new today. A stud was removed and the heater stud installed. The top of the stud had two blades to plug in an extension cord.

Some use the type that hook to 5/8 or 3/4 heater hose. Tied into block drain and a tee installed were temp. gauge fitting screws into head. Your 40 H may have exspantion plugs to coolant but there under the front engine cover and rear engine cover.

I have a W4 that has a pensil type block heater installed where head stud was removed, it works good. The W4 has the same engine as the H.--------Harold
