'46 I-4 oil leak

I got my I-4 running Friday for the first time in 15 years and it runs great. When it is running, there are no leaks at all, but when I shut the engine off, oil starts leaking from the lower petcock on the oil pan. I tried tightening the valve up more, but I'm worried that I'll twist it out of the oil pan. Is there a way to get it to stop leaking because it leaks at a rate of 1 drop per 3 seconds for 15-20 minutes?

When I open the petcock to check the oil it makes kind of a crunching sound like there is some grit inside of the seat. Is it possible to replace the petcocks in the oil pan because the upper one is missing the little diamond shaped knob too?

Thanks,
Drew

OEMTRACTORPARTS was selling them, but it was just as cheap for me to just change the oil pan. I think I paid like 30 bucks for the whole pan at a salvage yard, one from and H works just fine.

I found the ones you were talking about on oemtractorparts, and they're $17.25 each. I could probably make them, but I'd have to take the petcocks back to school with me, and I don't want the oil pan being open for a week or two while I'm making it.

I'll check some of the local salvage yards for an oil pan when I go looking for a seat tomorrow.

If it makes a "crunching" sound when turning the petcock, it may have dirt or debris in the petcock preventing it from closing fully. Remove the petcock and clean it out with air pressure.
