Hi All.

Do I have to drain the transmission before I remove the PTO unit? The manual simply says "remove unit". Also, is there a rebuild kit available for these (clutch type)? It is slipping under load and is adjusted so tight it drags when disengaged. I imagine it needs new friction plates. What are the common failure modes on these beasts and how poor will I be after the dealer gets finished with me? Is there an aftermarket parts source?

Had to completely rebuild mine last year. If you can angle the front
of the tractor downhill you will limit the amount of fluid lost. You
will lose some as you are opening the back of the transmission.
Unhook linkage and 4 bolts and slide straight back. Pretty heavy.
There is an o-ring between the unit and casing. I had over $750 in
parts rebuilding mine last year. Be careful, it is heavy.
