I found a few old posts about the differences between the C and Super C rear frames, but never any conclusions. Will the rear frame from a Super C work on C? I know it will bolt up just fine, but what"s different? Brake mounting holes? Anything internally that I should be aware of?
Thanks

Since a C or SC has no frame I will assume you meant the rear end from one working on the other. The answer is yes, they will interchange. The only real difference is that a C will have Band and drum brakes where a SC has disk brakes. One will bolt directly to the other and work. Engines and front ends will also interchange.

Matt,

No one else has jumped on yet, but I would not do it. The C had band brakes and the SC had disk breaks just to start. The gas tank was different and the stearing rod and wheel different. I would bet you could "bolt it up" but I also would bet that you would rue the day you started.

There is no difference in the housings. As for the steering you just use the SC steering support. It is also a perfect fit. The only difference he will ever notice will be the difference in brakes.

He only wants to put a SC rear on a C tractor so it will work fine. Have put 3 or 4 together that way and never had any problem.

Back in the early sixties, one of our less gifted employees caught an axle of our Super C on a tree and cracked the transmission case where the axle housing bolts in. The dealer replaced it, to the tune of about $350, real money in those days. The new housing was machined to take either the disk brakes of the Super C, or the band brakes of the C. As I recall the bushings were even in it for the short actuating shaft for the bands. I still have the tractor, and will have to check. I would bet that a C housing would take the disk brakes directly, but a Super would need the holes drilled and tapped for the band cover, and the hole made for the short shaft, if you wanted to go the other way. I don't know if the top covers are the same, but I don't see why they wouldn't be.

Experience makes all the difference. Every time I try something like that I get balled up. Thanks for setting me straight. Larry
