PTO 3788 to 3588 540/1000

I would like to trade pto output shafts.I have a 3588 with 1000 pto only, Ifound a 3788 that caught fire and is in a scrap yard that has 540/1000. Is it as easy as just switching the 1000 for the 540/1000 shaft.
 
Well, that depends. The 3788 did not come with dual pto so some one may have taken care of any internal shaft size changes couplings already . One other thing, there are two different dual pto units, early ones have adjustable pressure engagement valve stem that is pulled up for engage with spring loaded brakes when shut off so shaft will not turn with or without engine running. Later one has hydraulic locked engage with valve spool pushed down in to unit, hydraulic shaft brake that is applied when engine is running and pto shut off but shaft is free to turn when engine is not running. Either unit will fit and work but they have opposite operating lever linkage so you need correct linkage for your unit and correct size and length of internal shaft and couplings. .
