farmall 400 560 gas ipto units interchange ?

Their are two types of PTO's for the 560 the band clutch and clutch disc type. The band type I think will work.

my 400 is band type. i dont like it. will clutch type fit(whole unit) fit into my 400 rear end ?
have you done one and work aok ?

It will fit but the PTO shaft speed will be wrong. The 460/560 have different gear ratios in the clutch housing bases on which style PTO is used.

Planetary , band type has a gear reduction in it. Clutch type is straight through so in a 400 it would run way too fast and they gave a lot more trouble than planetary.

Yes, the ratios are different between the planetary and clutch type IPTOs. In addition, because the 560 ran faster than the four cylinder, that accounts for another speed difference. However, some 560s may have come from the factory with the earlier planetary IPTO.

I have a 660 with a planetary IPTO. Due to 2400 RPM engine speed on that model, it is possible that all 660s used the planetary. Too lazy to look it up and risk a potential brain warp while sorting out all the different parts, IPTOs, and tractors.

Without checking my parts book, there may be as many as four different IPTO driven gear/driving gear gearsets in the clutch/TA housing.

If you need correct 540 RPM, you can only replace same style IPTO with one that is similar in the SMTA thru 660 tractors. Without checking the parts book, one might assume that the couplings are different so that a farmer would not be able to make field changes that would be dangerous.

Rear pto shaft and couplings are the same. Be warned if you put the clutch type in the 400 it will be turning 771 RPM at 1450 engine RPM.
