Correct Tire Pressure?

The neighbor commented the other day that the tires on my 2424 looked awfully soft - and he was right. When I checked them I had NO air pressure registering on the gauge. They are loaded, so apparently the calcium has been keeping them on the rims for, well, years.

I put in 15 lb, and it took a while. I am ashamed to say I really don't know how hard they should be run. I use it regularly in the woods, so I think there is an advantage to keeping them softer in case I hit something sharp - but I'm not sure. What should I be running in these? The tires were new a few years ago and still in really good shape.

Thanks,

Tim in New York

Around 11 or 12 psi is good on rear tires. The more air the easier it will spin out on you. Lot's of folks around here have trouble pulling turning plows because of high tire pressure.

11 or 12 psi would be about right for a farm tractor doing normal work, but that 2424 is an industrial I think? If it has the front loader and several wheel weights for ballast, maybe 15psi isn't too far off. Maybe your owners manual will tell you?

Thank you both for your responses. It is an industrial tractor, but no loader, and I really use it like an ag tractor - plowing the driveway and hauling firewood. I'll drop the pressure back down a few pounds based on what you've told me. I do have an owner's manual somewhere, will see what that says too.
