Rear wheel adjust on a B

I"m about to head out to pick up a Farmall B but want to be sure that it will fit on my trailer. Here are a few of the facts as best I know them.

The trailer deck is 83 inches wide.

The IH tractor data book gives the B"s width at 101 inches, suggesting that it won"t fit on my trailer.

However, Guy Fay"s Farmall Letter Series Book reports that "the width is adjustable by 4 inch increments from 64 to 92 inches". Consequently, it should fit, but I"ll need to adjust the wheels.

So how does one adjust the wheels on a Farmall B?

Thanks in advance - I"ll give an update when and if I get the tractor back to the farm!

Slappy,

You adjust the wheel width on a B by bolting the wheel disk and rim together in various combinations. Both wheel disk and rim can be flipped, and the rim can be mounted on the inside or outside of the wheel disk to get various widths.

For the narrowest settings, the wheel disk should be mounted "dished in." You'll see what I mean when you get there.

It's likely that the B you're buying is narrow enough to go on the trailer without modification, but you should bring a friend, a heavy floor jack, wrenches, and some PB Blaster with you just in case.

There is a center disc that bolts to the rim in 4 places and by moving the center disc or rim you can adjust the rear tread. Take your 6pt sockets and long GOOD braker bar with cheater and favorite WD-40 stuff. Jack and some wooden blocks as you will only have to move one wheel to load and maybe none. The nut size could be from 15/16 to 1 1/8 never know what sizes would be on there by now. In the last 20yrs ive bought at least 20 of them and never had to move any wheels yet. Last one two wks ago just fit between fender wells like you say 84in. Book says 101 in but thats center to center of tire so with 15.5s it could be realy wide but i dont think anyone would be that wide but as they always say 1st time for everything. good luck and enjoy great little tractors love em a bunch now ifn ya needs parts glad to help.

A word of caution if you flip the wheel centers be very careful because most are cast iron and are very heavy as in over 100lbs. Bt yes they can be adjusted by the ways they are mounted as the other guys have said
