banks0531 10-19-2012 16:39:24 96.228.202.16 Report to Moderator	I recently did some trading and got a nice little bobcat 610 with a wisconsion motor. Runs good, starting to use for side work and I was leveling some crush rock for a guy and it ran low on gas, it loves the gas. After I filled it back up, it ran rough, was blowing blackish smoke and running rough. I finished smoothing out the drive way and loaded it up. Got it home and it ran the same way. Realize it had gas dripping out of the hose from air filter. I have put a new gas filter on it last weekend, haven't done plugs and wires yet. What would be a correct fix? I need it to be more dependable then what its doing now. Thanks in advance for the help. [Reply]   [No Email]

Wisconsin VH4D is still being used on many applications in today's world. I have the Bobcat 610 service manual, but it has very little information about the V4HD engine. Does yor manual have more detailed info. I let my 610 sit for two or three months and I think the fuel went bad. It was running perfectly in August, and when I started it last week, it would only run with the choke held open. I used some Seafoam fuel conditioner, and that helped, but it still isn't right Thanks, Jim [Reply]  [No Email]

When you call them talk to Ed in service, He knows 610's like the back of his hand, They"ve parted out alot of 610's so if he can"t get you new he probably has a good used piece. He sends me parts whenever I need them and has also rebuilt my carb. 1 thing I know about the carb is not to set the float by the book, lower it and you need to talk to Ed about it. By lowering the float it keeps the amount of gas lower in the bowl so that when you get the loader nose down it won"t flood out. [Reply]  [No Email]

Parts for the Wisconsin motor are still available. Most of the parts for the 610 are still available from Cat. But ya don't want to buy to many parts that says Bobcat on it. Clutch assembly is around $415.00 for each clutch and there is 4 of them. I just replaced the fiber clutch disk in mine a month ago. As for running rich, with black smoke, like Old said yur running way too much gas thur carb. The Wisconsin carb is not any harder to work on than those on most 4 cyl tractor motors. If ya need it I have the Service & Repair manual for the 610. Also Parts manual. I replaced the motor on mine, used a Wisconsin VH4D off of a portable air compressor.. I had the inner half of the vara-speed pulley machined out to fit the straight output shaft of most Wisconsin motors. I did not want to pay Bobcat $2400.00 for a new one!!! I'm like you I traded for my Bobcat, only mine was a basket case, motor blown, all 4 clutches worn out, oil lines to external oil filter shot, missing filter bracket and filter, seat missing, almost back together now, just need to rebuild the vari-drive hydraulic cylinder. Oh by the way, to keep a Wisconsin motor from running hot, make sure you blow out all the dirt that collects in the shroud, also run some diesel mixed in your gas. Im hoping to get to parts house tomorrow and get new plugs for it. I have been putting marvel mystery oil in gas hoping it to help clear it up. Dont want to pull the carb out until I get a rebuild kit for it, since it looks like a pain to get out and who knows when it was last redone. [Reply]  [No Email]

I had trouble with mine a year ago. I would get it started and it would mis-fire blow black smoke and eventually die. I found for a short term fix to gently tap on the carb right above the gas input before I started it and it would run ok until I shut it off. since then I have had the carb professionally rebuilt and it"s back to running fine. 610 Bobcat 10-20-2012 00:58:52 96.53.210.246 Report to Moderator	Re: bobcat 610 in reply to banks0531, 10-19-2012 16:39:24   You realize that it's approx. 40 years old and some parts are near impossible to find, especially for the drive system? It's not hydrostatic but uses a 2 speed clutch set up as I understand it. They were a good machine in their day and may provide you with a lot of service but if you plan to do a lot of side work, you may want to look at a newer machine. The Wisconsin engines in them I think are VH4D's (30 HP)and would require an engine job every 1000 to 1500 hours according to a dealer who used to sell them. I think because of their location they were prone to overheating. Sounds like a stuck float or some dirt got sucked in the carb when it ran out of gas. [Reply]  [No Email]

Looking on eBay and you don"t see hardly nothing for them. I don"t use it a lot, say once a weekend. Make sure to periodically clean out debris from the shroud around the engine so it has maximum cooling. The engine is tucked inside pretty good and doesn't get as much air flow as if it were out in the open. [Reply]  [No Email]

Black smoke says it is running rich so either the float or needle is not doing it job or the choke is closing up for some reason or the air filter is clogged up [Reply]  [No Email]
