I'm looking at a low hour TD 340 (860 hours) that the left side steering clutch doesn't release. What could be my best or worse case scenarios. The dozer has been used on light farm work it's whole life, and has been sitting for several years. Thanks in advance for your input and suggestions. Mark |

| Mark. The 340 does not have steering clutches. It uses a planetary steering system similar to the TD7 and 8. It's rather complicated to describe but basically consists of two steel discs and two sets of shoes on each side. One disc is held stationary to drive the corresponding side and then released to make a turn and the other disc is stopped to make a spot turn. In other words no fiber/steel clutch pack with pressure plate and brake drum. The linings on the shoes are probably worn out. They can be relined but may have damaged the discs if allowed to run metal on metal. Good luck. Steve. www.pdmechanical.com |

| These are different from standard systems wet drive / dry stop would suspect meter wrong there is an adjustment by your feet to reduce free travel otherwise it needs torn down and at least dry brakes replaced. in a shed tracks and finals removed Where is it located? |

| Are you sure it's the steering clutch and not the pivot brake? When you pull back on the lever on either side, the clutch disengages on that side and then when you pull it further, the pivot brake engages for an even sharper turn. If the brake is just stuck, you might try engaging both brakes with the pedal with both levers forward (engaged)and it might break loose. If it is the steering clutch, it might have been overadjsuted, but I think that's unlikely. |
