cwheat 08-16-2012 18:10:36 66.82.162.32 Report to Moderator	Hello all, Have a 3f1r transmission d3 that I am looking at. The machine will shift into forward 1 and two alright but when you go back to the forward stop where neutral should be it will not come out of forward until you shift to the reverse slot. Seems like maybe shifting mechanism needs adjusting. I did not have time to check out very good and no tools with me at the time. Wondering since the machine seemed to shift good but hit the front stop before coming out of forward if I could assume the transmission is ok and linkage just out of adjustment or if this tractor could possibly have transmission problems more than adjusting can fix. The brakes on both sides are not working at all, either plumb worn out or needing adjusting bad, but the clutches will disengage because it will start turning the right way when you depress each clutchbrake pedal and start back to pulling straight when you let them up, especially when going up a hill.It was just difficult to tell which gear it was in after first. I think the only other one I could get it in was second but not sure because it seemed to be moving about twice as fast as in first. Just thinking aloud it seems like if the shifting mechanism would not go far enough to come out of forward before it hit the stop, it looks like it would go in third gear easily but I may be thinking backward. You can get confused quick trying to figure that kind of stuff. I ran it about 30 minutes moving it around and pushing against a tree and it did not heat up and stop pulling during that time. I may go back and take a few tools so I can determine better if it is all working right except for the linkage.   [Reply]  [No Email]

NCWayne 08-17-2012 05:55:19 69.40.232.132 Report to Moderator	Re: d3 transmission shift linkage in reply to cwheat, 08-16-2012 18:10:36   The detents in the transmission hold/snap in to the in the individual gear selections pretty hard. As a result worn out, or out of adjustment, linkage will definately create problems with shifting. If you can't get the linkage to work, the easiest way to test the transmission is to pull the floor plates so you can get to the shift levers on top of the transmission. Disconnect the linkage and move the levers by hand and insure they snap into the detent for each gear, and, of course, run the machine in each gear to insure that the shifting linkage is the only problem.   [Reply]  [No Email]
dieseldr 08-16-2012 18:34:10 75.105.20.44 Report to Moderator	Re: d3 transmission shift linkage in reply to cwheat, 08-16-2012 18:10:36   Sounds reasonable to me, but I think I would bury the blade in clay or something substantial, give it full throttle while in low gear, and see if it will spin the tracks..... at least then you would know if the TC and forward clutch are sound. Just cuz it shifts good doesn't mean it won't slip or heat.   [Reply]  [No Email]
