I'm wondering if anyone knows what other Makes and/or models of mini-excavators would have the same final drive. I'm searching for availability of parts. Thanks for any help. My machine is a 1996. |

Are you sure of the model. Kubota made a KH 28 back in the 80s or so . I have been around Kubota for 28 years and so far have never found any other brand to have the same finals but you might find something. I was told once while I was in Japan visiting the factor that the finals were made by yuan but on Kubota drawings or kinda like Kubota owning the rights to the product. jm

Thanks jm, mine is K - 028 10464 and it's a bit of an education to check this out. One Hitachi final drive I've checked out for possible replacement is externally the same, inside the main hub it has the same number of spline but the gears are just slightly different, barely visible to the eye. I guess this is their way of keeping a monopoly on the parts. I appreciate your input.

No problem and please e-mail me what ever you find out. Is the planet gears bad or the drive pump?

The drive motor works 100% and the planetary gears are acceptable but the short little gear (with a retaining clip) that slips over the little drive gear coming out of the drive motor into the planetary hub stripped and the metal chips took out the spline all around the inside of the hub. It seems that no one sells the final drive separate from the drive motor, so at this point it looks like I'll need to buy a whole new replacement unit. Not sure yet if this is a weak point on the Kubota excavators or not. My machine has about 2300 hrs, and not sure how the previous owner treated it.

Eric We operate a rental fleet out of the store. I have 12 KUBOTA excavators there. Most are U35s but some smaller and some larger. As a precaution we do two things drain and replace the final drive grease/oil ever 400 hrs. We also run a small amount of Lucas oil treatment. Have not had a final fail in under 3000 hrs since we went to this program. Some uses see the final used a lot more and it is MY thoughts that using the excavator with the blade a lot may lead to final failure. I have tried for years to find a source for the little gear you are talking about as well as the outer ring, just not out there. Thanks for posting back. I still would like to see a photo of your unit, just not sure of what you have. Do you think it is a grey market machine?
