Next up on my list of little things to fix on my 1979 350C John Deere is the tachometer cable. I pulled it loose at the tachometer and turned the engine over. Cable never moved. I tried to pull the cable out of the housing to check but it only comes up about 1". How do I go about changing the cable? The engine end is located deep on the rear of the engine and tight to the dash assembly. |

| you can buy a generic cable at the auto parts store that might work. Take yours out and see what they have before you go to JD to get one. I have done that on several rigs and works fine.....you cut them to length and crimp an "end" on the cable. |

| Many of them have a piece crimped on one end which means they can only come out one way. I imagine your cable assy. is the old braided steel type. I would replace the whole assy. anyhow. |
