I was wondering if any one here has ever seen any photos of/at the old Caterpillar White Tank Mountain Proving ground in Az. All I can find on google areal photo, but I wondered if there are any ground perspective photos (with tractors included) out there for the public. Thanks |

| Bill this picture may be of interest to you, it is supposed to be the first D9 with the crew that built it,I can't say where or when it was taken.

| Three years ago a phone call would have given us the answer. Sadly an old friend of my mine passed away two years ago, he had been a Cat engineer his whole career, and spent many years at the proving grounds. He was on the team that built the first D 9. |

| | I've been there, but didn't take any photos. I did drive a D9 w/dozer. Not a bit of "seat of the pants feel" that I'm used to driving smaller crawlers. It was late in the afternoon and the layout was pretty shaded out by the time we went in to eat and dark when we came back outside. |

| I can imagine that the shadows would start earlier based on the way it was situated on the mountain side. In my research I found it was closed up in 1990, two years before I was born. I'd try local historical entities, but to my knowledge, because of how remote it was in its heydays, I just don't know which to try or if they have anything any how. And of course, it doesn't help that I weighted until I'm a student at the U of A in Tucson to try to look, as apposed to when I was in high school in the area. |
