Case Nutty 1660 11-01-2012 11:17:16 75.127.24.27 Report to Moderator	guy's I just picked up a fairly nice TD9 crawler and am rounding up a sevice manual for it, my question is the RH steering clutch will not release ( I can feel the brake will work if the clutch would release) and the lever does not take much to pull it back like the left clutch that does work correctly, I have a feeling it will need a tear down to fix can any one give me a few ideas what could be wrong and how bad are they to get to? thanks for any info as I am not familar with the IH units,,,,yet lol thanks again cnt [Reply]   [No Email]

Case Nutty 1660 11-02-2012 12:46:33 75.127.24.27 Report to Moderator	Re: TD9 IH in reply to Case Nutty 1660, 11-01-2012 11:17:16   Success!!! went back and fired the ole girl up and drove her about 25' rearward working clutch and brake a few times, then drove forward 10' or so doing the same and when I pulled back on the steering clutch I thought I felt it release on the RH side stepped on the brake and she turned like it should thanks to all and TomA too for all sugeestions and offers of help I will be doing a full service on her soon to get her ready for winter thank you all again very much cnt tom   [Reply]  [No Email]

You'll be glad it is out of your way by the time you are done. Also I believe there are long tie bolts going throught the steer clutch compartment that help hold the winch on. They will have to be removed for clutch removal. Steering clutches freezing up is fairly common when the machines sit and moisture is present. Best to use them once in awhile. Case Nutty 1660 11-02-2012 11:40:30 75.127.24.27 Report to Moderator	Re: TD9 IH in reply to Dennis K (WA), 11-02-2012 08:34:45   the sticking may be from what you describe as this unit was mainly used to move snow on a steep canyon road so a lot of down time is sure in the cards, I have not gotten a ops manual yet but when I do I will do a service on it and see where water is hiding sure would be nice if it would come loose with out total disassembly but will do what it takes as it seems to be a fairly good dozer with not a huge amount of hours or wear thanks again for any input, IH dozers are not in my knowleage at all but am willing to learn cnt   [Reply]  [No Email]

The 9 clutches are a bit of a pain. Very little room to get at a few of the bolts and many are lock wired. Also....be sure to put index marks on the pinion flange and brake drum because there is only one way to get "all" the bolts back in. There has been lots of discussion on clutches over on the REDPOWER site.You can get new bi-metalic discs now,if you need to replace them.They help to prevent bonding up. gemdozer 11-01-2012 14:10:34 74.15.142.45 Report to Moderator	Re: TD9 IH in reply to Case Nutty 1660, 11-01-2012 11:17:16   You could try adjusted the stering cluch first and the adjustement is make by turning the turncbukle at the end stering cluch lever and you need 4" free movement at top lever and you should have 3" free movement on top brake pedal and the adjustement is under the housing from the inspection cover   [Reply]  [No Email]

I do know that it would not steer when they parked it some 20 years ago, I am hoping it can be worked on from the top cover and I do not have to remove final drives ect to get to the steering clutch cnt   [Reply]  [No Email]

I would run the tractor back and forth while riding the brake to heat up the drum real good. Then short hard stabs on the brake while holding the clutch back may break it free.   [Reply]  [No Email]
