Thanks for the reply. I am not sure I understand...so I pull the boom raise lever back and raise the boom, then when it reaches the top I push the lever forward to let it drop and the pull the lever back again?

To place the hoe in transport position 1. Center the hoe on the tractor using the swing controls. 2. Make sure stabilizers are down and rear wheels are off the ground. Place loader bucket on the ground, I usually put enough pressure on it to raise the front tires slightly off the ground. 3. Use hand throttle to keep engine speed around 1000 rpm. DO NOT EXCEED 1000 rpm 4. Curl the bucket up tight. 5. Retract the dipper all the way. 6. Pull the boom control toward you, as the boom reaches a vertical position, quickly push forward on the boom control. This places the boom in over-center mode. The locking ring on the boom will automatically engage. This takes a couple of tries to get the first time, then you'll wonder what the big deal was! 7. Install the swing lock pin. 8. Raise the stabilizer pads, swing the seat around to loader position. Raise the loader bucket, and you're ready to roll. 8. To release the boom, remember that the boom controls work backward in over-center mode. You need to push the boom control forward, release the boom latch, hold the boom latch in release position then pull boom control back.

| | I just cant get the hoe to lock in travel position. When I push the boom lever forward it just falls back to the ground. I dont understand how pushing the lever forward (away from me) could make the boom raise insted of lower. Maybe something is wrong with my machine???? I really appreciate the help that I have received here....you guys are great! |

The trick is to pull the boom control lever back until the boom is vertical to the ground, then, very quickly push the boom control forward. This puts the control in over-center mode. The control works backwards when the system is in over-center mode. Hope this helps.

I have an old 1971 580CK that I bought used awhile back and have been fixing up - haven"t use it much yet. Anyway, do you know if backhoes of this vintage had a travel lock like this. Should your instructions work on my old backhoe?
