It ran 110 with next to no smoke. I was just curious what they would put out in case one of those engines fell into a early 990 around here for a puller. Thad [Reply]  [No Email]

It ran very strong in the 7000lb farm stock. We ran 8th gear at about 4000 rpm. Pulled it two seasons and the only touble we had was the valve seats once. [Reply]  [No Email]

I was surprised to read the coments about the trannys being at their limit. We had very few issues with clutches and trannys. Once we learned the little quirks of the hyds, they were very dependable also. We sold around 10 1690s and the engines prooved to be a real pain. Cooling problems, that lousey connector between the two heads for coolant, and a lack of engine response while under load. As stated, all smoke and no go. We only sold a couple of 1594s and they were much better tractors. I was really looking forward to the Cummins powered DB, but that didn't happen as stated. Just a side note. There is a 1690/66L ldr., that we sold, listed in the Photo Adds now. Little Falls NY. Loren [Reply]  [No Email]
jic 02-25-2013 18:32:34 66.103.107.4 Report to Moderator	Re: 1690 development in reply to RGMartin, 02-25-2013 17:27:10   we only sold one new 1690, farmer traded in a 1410. had saddle on both tractors. pulled a 6 row planter with a harrow mtd. on front of planter and ran pto pump at rated pto speed. 1410 never had any trouble. 1690 could,t do it at pto speed, then tried with pto off and wide open not much better. brought back to shop a put it on dyno. wide open still only 80 - 85 hp and lots of black smoke. he limped through rest of planting and then fixted it with a new 2090. boss shipped 1690 out of state. always wanted to put the 1410 on dyno when it came back in someday. it never came back in for anything ever. and we never sold a new 1594 ether.
