Hygard is $2.00/gal cheaper and I have no doubts in regard to it's quality as it specs. the same as Hytran. We always ran universal in the Olivers and this way I could use one oil in everything, furthermore I am getting tired of getting hosed by the friggin Italians. [Reply]   [No Email]

I'm not sure what Case called for prior to buy out IH. I have trying Conaco oil and found no good results from it other than foaming.I have my own stories on such good results. My last is changing oil in my Farmall 400 when I had about a gallon of milky in the drain pan and one I had some new hytran run into the same pan. After just a few minutes I noticed the little spot of hytran getting bigger. I could see the hytran bubbling and expanding. By the time I got the transmission filled it looked like it had new oil in the drain pan. Have other proven facts about hydraulic pump problems that were cured by using hytran in the IH tractors. Never had the complaint of over heating transmissions. Have been around IH a lot longer than I have older Case tractors. Have not heard of any problems using JD hygard in other makes. I have bulk oil from Case through MN AG Group. They travel all over MN and WI. Last time it was just under $12 a gallon for Hy-tran,15-40 and pre mixed coolant. Free delivery, and when you are on the bulk oil program you get 20% off filters year round. The set up has easily paid for itself, and no more 55 gal. drums. You buy the totes, if you only need one, get one. I'm sure hy-gard is good oil but sure seems thin compared to hy-tran. [Reply]  [No Email]

That is the reason I switched 15 years ago. Haying in the summer heat the Hytran would get so hot and thin that it was causing problems. Hyguard runs much cooler. I have never broadcast my switch because I figured you guys would give me crap. From the experience I have had it is time to tell you all what you are missing out on. I am never going back! One is Conoco powertran and the other is Sinclair universal tractor fluid. Can beat JD price by an easy $100 or more in 55 gal drums or by $2 to $3 a gal in 5 gal. Have guys that run one or the other and have no problems. Dont know if this is an option, but might be worth checking into if you have supplier in area for one or the other. Scott [Reply]  [No Email]

Well My gear-chain drive sixspeed 1966 CK 930 has 90 wt hypoid. I bought the tractor with 2000 hrs on it and changed to 90wt at 2800 hr. I run it 6000hrs without changing it. I changed it last year and the old 0il looked great yeat. Had no filings or sludge in it. My question is. Why did they go to tch in the first place. It will be announced in February. Hytran and Hygard are similar...yet different. Hytran has the capability to absorb and hold water, Hygard does not. THAT is why they are looking at cheaper oils. What really needs to be looked at is to find BETTER oils. BETTER oils are not always the cheapest to buy. I'll gladly pay a few $$ more for a BETTER oil than the hundreds or thousands $$$$ more it will cost me on new clutches, bearings or transmission components wrecked by using cheaper oils.
