denverslim 01-22-2013 18:18:59 63.231.76.245 Report to Moderator	I bought this at a sale for scrap price 4 or 5 years ago and fixed it up a little with mostly grease and a little welding. I didn't know much about them just that I needed something to break up the weeds. My 86-year-old neighbor always laughs and jokes with me and my old stuff and my need for using older pieces. I would rather drag around an older piece with my old tractor anyday than use the new fancy made-in-China stuff. I know it's easier for me to say this because I don't make a living with it the way he did or have to feed my family with it. Any way, his health pretty much confines him to his house these days. When I told him about it, he had me go back to look closer, and when I reported back to him that it had a bird on a post, for a logo, he smiled and said, "Case tandom. I pulled one around for 25 years, about 50 years ago."..slim [Reply]   [No Email]

I like how years ago parts looked like they were made for a peice of equipment.Today they look like a bunch of misc. peices of common steel welded together to do a job. Our folks took pride in their products,even though our newer technology is more sophsicated thier products stood the test of time. My old oliver 2 bottom drag plows did a better job (with a little more work) than my newer 3pth ones did. What went wrong? [Reply]  [No Email]

I have given up on getting an answer, or at least an answer that is logical. I know one thing, our money and economy issue will only worsen with things being done like they are. No one is scared of being without good solid simple tools I am seeing. Being a simple farmboy I value the farm machinery very high. Without it one can only look at the land and get nothing from it. Looks like a model 70 as the R had an enclosed clutch angle. I use mine every year even though it's only a little 6', keeps dad out of trouble and does a nice job in the garden. It will work down plowed dirt just the same as a new one. Disc harrows just like that are indeed still being used on farms for a living. Machinery are tools just the same as an end wrench is. It should all be kept even if not used for ages and ages. Cost to much $$$ to buy new and will only get higher in cost. [Reply]  [No Email]

Although, I think it is a JD disk. It has wooden bushings inside the steel casings. My dad made new wooden bushings for it. My inside discs are getting really worn down. I should have bought one that I saw at auction this past spring. It was in really good shape and the guy that bought it cut it up with a torch and loaded it in his truck. I'm still kicking myself.
