I never saw much of a problem with the splined levers you are refering to. Most of the problems were in the quadrunt and shifting lever area on the console. We Fitted and welded a strap on the back of the shifting lever to thicken it a bit, tightened up the quadrant shaft, to take out any end play and gap between the quadrants so the lever couldn't slip between. Also reinforced the linkage rods on some where they were cowboyed a lot. Try those remidies before spending money.
