Today is oil change day for the dc. When I drained the rear end fluid it is the color of sick calf crap. Light brown. I don't think it should look like that. Am I wrong. Should I just fill er back up or try to clean it somehow before re filling. Thanks. It's sitting empty in the garage right now |

| | Its a little water mixed with heavy tranny oil--probably 140 wt. It is still adequate lubricant for that type tranny. Rub it between you fingers and compare to new oil. The looseness where the steering wheel shaft enters the casting is a place for water to enter. Also, the boot around the gear shift lever cracks and breaks and that is another place for water to enter the tranny. |

| I thought that is how it is supposed to look. Every one of them I have ever opened up, looks like that, and I will bet, if you flush it out. Put new oil in, and in a years time it will look just like the old oil did. Especially if you use it at all. |

| Dad loved the old DC but he said those old cast iron tractors were magnets for condensation and moisture. He like to routinely change the fluids for the same reason you are. |

| I'd flush it with diesel fuel before refilling. |
