tractorboy 94 11-13-2012 20:51:55 207.219.69.207 Report to Moderator	Hey, I"m looking for some reassurance I"m going to pick up a case tractor tomorrow. its said to be a 1963 case 300b its gas I"m guessing around 35hp. I wanna know if this would have a case o matic transmission? The guy said he didn"t understand it or ever really use the tractor but that it had direct drive and something else plus hi lo range. Joe Young 11-15-2012 06:21:19 64.126.67.179 Report to Moderator	Re: case 300b in reply to tractorboy 94, 11-14-2012 19:27:07   It's a great little tractor, which likely (no absolutes with 60 year old Case tractors), has a dual range, 4-speed transmission (8 forward and 2 reverse gears) behind the Case-o-Matic clutch. Unless it has been swapped out, It has a very reliable 148 ci engine. If it has a PTO, it will be of the independent variety... I don't recognize the loader. It's likely an aftermarket brand. Other options included an eagle hitch, power steering and remote hydraulics. Nice find. Good luck [Reply]  [No Email]

It would have a dry clutch and very likely a triple range, or a dual range shuttle transmission. If it has a triple range, it most likely has a hand clutch in addition to the main clutch. The 300B series was not offered with a case-o-matic clutch. As Tom has indicated, 400B is essentially the same tractor and is equipped with the COM clutch. Be sure to share some pics of your find.... Joe Young 11-14-2012 05:34:07 64.126.67.179 Report to Moderator	Re: case 300b in reply to tractorboy 94, 11-14-2012 05:18:14   Sounds like you have a 400B or possibly a 600b, a 530 or a 630. Those were the small case tractors with the Case-o-matic option during the late 1950s and 1960s. To operate the Case-o-matic system, one engages the foot clutch which releases pressure to the torque converter, so that you can shift the transmission from neutral into a gear. Release the foot clutch and open the throttle, and the converter will operate very similar to an automobile with an automatic transmission. Once the tractor is moving under power, you can back off of the throttle momentarily and engage the system into direct drive by moving the lever on the right side of the dash down or aft. That lever engages the direct drive clutch within the converter, effectively bypassing the torque converter. The lever on the right side of the torque tube is a high-low range selector which in combination with your main 4 speed transmission, gives you a total of 8 forward speeds, each with the com and direct drive settings.
