Bought a rough looking 1290 I asked about the steering on a couple of weeks ago.Got it running with a little bit of trouble.Smokes like a chimney.Definetely unburned diesel fuel not coolant or oil.What would be the most likely cause of this.Thanks, Bill M.

| r martin , is probably rite , BUT ,you mite look into the fuel return lin e ???,,.. my 4020 deere has been getting trash in the fuel return line elbow ,, that makes that deere smoke and run like a gasser withe choke out

| Compression issue. Most likely a broken piston/rings or 4 from someone using ether on it.
It is possible it just has glazed bores/stuck rings, but that is unlikely at best.
