Borrowed the neighbor's 2670 and scraper to do dirt work around the shop and when I took it home and went to shift her out of fourth the shifter went to nuetral but the fork and shift collar are still in fourth. My question: is there anything that can be done up through the bottom pan cover or does it have to be torn down? Thanks in advance. |

Yes, you can see what is going on by removeing the bottom trans cover. I had a 2470 that broke a shift rail this spring, I was able to fix it by removeing the brake assemble off the back of the trans. and working through the bottom.

8-10 hrs. Removeing/installing the brake housing isn't much fun, that part will take 2 guys.

If the shifter is in netural you can try to put it back by prying gently with a screw driver. You should be able to pry the slot to the netural position to match up with the shifter. If you have something different let us know

the shifter quadrants in the dash will shift to all four positions but she is stuck in fourth. I even took the cable off at trans and can feel all three detent positions. Don"t know if the fork can come out of the shifter cam. I glanced at the parts breakdown but cant tell much there. Just didnt want to tear the rear brake assembly and output shaft out if not needed. Just wondered if anyone else ran into this. is there a chance the shifter rail snap ring failed or if it could have shifted the fork far enough to come out of the cam is common.
