From factory photos, I believe the battery ground cable bolted to the chassis on the
right side of the tractor, but I can't tell
exactly where. Not sure if they changed over the years, but this is a 41 SC. Can anyone describe from the photo where the cable was attached, or a photo would be great! Thanks.

I have a 42 SC and it bolts to one of the two bolts right on top of the trans. cover right next to the battery. Have to put ;it thre so that when you slide the battery out to the left, there is enough slack in the cable to do so. Scrape off paint so as to get a good contact. I even have a star type lock washer between the cable and the cast frame to make good contact.
Looks like a good paint job!

Thanks Greenfrog! I don't have a slide out tray yet, but it's a good reminder to make the cable long enough for one.

Yes , speaking of tray....mine slides to the left, there are two long bolts that goes to a frame that goes on TOP of the battery. Nuts on top. Can loosen slightly and the batt. slides out.
I have seen very few at tractor shows that have the frame on top. Probably rusted out years ago. This is original and most just have some sort of tie-down strap to hold the batt.; in place. The batt. will actually slides out and stays "hanging " in there while you access it.Watch for tallness of batt. Group 1 .....

I see there is a repo battery tray with top hold-down on EBay, but they go for $95..... need food worse right now, lol.

The IHC / Case parts diagram makes it look like the ground cable bolts underneath the center of the battery box, but I can't tell for sure. Have to figure out where the cable goes, so I can have a new one made up. Trying to put some of the tractor back to original where it's makes monetary sense and practicality. It was converted to 12 volts 30 years ago, and the starter always whipped the engine over fast. For now at least, it's going to stay a 12v system.
Just noticed in the diagrams last night, that it originally had a "slide out" battery tray.

It may not be authentic but I would bolt it as close to the starter as I could, possibly one of the bolts holding the starter on. On a MM UB I had I welded a bolt to the back of the wedge bolt that held the starter on and then used it for the battery ground.
