GConn 10-03-2012 18:16:06 74.218.217.94 Report to Moderator	I purchased a LA case at a estate sale some years ago , after I got it home, running, and cleaned up, it turned out to be a nice tractor . but in the process of cleaning I found that the rear end under the bull gears had cracked and been sorta repaired/welded. someone said it was because the chains had got lose and jumped a tooth ? Recently I purchase another parts tractor unseen at scrap iron price for the rear to switch ,IT"S CRACKED TOO! Looks like maybe water froze and busted it , how common is this??? hard to tell sometimes till you realy clean it up . [Reply]   [No Email]

My bottom tank has pin holes in it, may just take off and weld up as pepper won't stop it. Mine leaks about 5 gallons a week and in the summer it's no biggie to top it off. GConn 10-04-2012 18:46:15 74.218.217.94 Report to Moderator	Re: CASE LA experts in reply to GConn, 10-03-2012 18:16:06   Thanks for the imput guys, looks like the best thing to do is the coating JB weld on the inside of mine(till I run accrosst a rear that I am sure not cracked) The parts tractor has no sheet metal or wheels ,block is cracked, but dose have a pto that mine is lacking and was able to salvage a eagle mag core, pto and a head.I will probably take to scrap as soon as time premits to recover my investment and keeping the place cleaned up. 1031D 10-03-2012 21:21:51 107.8.250.69 Report to Moderator	Re: CASE LA experts in reply to GConn, 10-03-2012 18:16:06   A lot of times what happens is guys break a chain, don't have a clue there's even chains in there and hook a chain on it and pull it home, only to have the bull sprocket blast the chain out the bottom in 50'. My DH had this happen and someone painstakingly rewelded the case. While it seeps a little oil, it's been holding together for around 50 years that I can vouch for. My Dad learned to weld from the gentleman that did the welds on the tractor. They CAN be repaired but it takes time, skill and patience. One minor thing I wish they'd done after the repair is to coat the inside of the case with glytol or some other sealant again. The case is actually seeping oil through the casting as best I can tell. Cleaned the inside floor up and put about 3 tubes of JB on it and let dry a couple days before putting together. I know it won't weld it, but it did keep it from leaking. The case is too thick to get enough heat to weld it.Still holden 5 years later! [Reply]  [No Email]
