tsgtdan 09-21-2012 09:47:10 72.187.179.121 Report to Moderator	the case 430 i am attempting to work on does not have drains for the torque converter and tranny. There is a hose underneath that runs from the drain port of the toque converter to the drain port for the trany. The owners manual I have says use hyd fluid in the toraue converter and 90w oil in the manual tranny. With the hose thats on this tractor, it runs hyd fluid from the torque converter to the tranny. Why is this hose in place? The rear end is very noisey.Anyone else run into this? thanks for your help tsgtdan [Reply]   [No Email]

It looks like im going to hydraulic shop to fix my 430 rather then going to case. My 430 will pass over a gallon of hydraulic fluid in a few hours in to the rear end while brush hogging. Case Nutty 1660 09-21-2012 10:30:49 75.127.24.27 Report to Moderator	Re: case 430 hydraulic / 90 weight oil in reply to tsgtdan, 09-21-2012 09:47:10   the hose you are talking about is not stock, my guess is some one installed it to keep the excess oil from the torque tube from over filling the rear end (this is caused by a leak between the two compartments, shaft seal or 3pt rockshaft), high rear end noise is not common but I have seen it from missing teeth on a gear/gears bad brg even bent shift forks will cause noise, another note is that a 430 never had COM, it could be a 400B series or 530/630 am telling you this just for future parts ordering, if it were me I would pull trans shifter cover first and with oil drained you could jack up a wheel and turn it over by hand and see if that is where your noise is if not remove rear end top cover and do the same you should be able to pin point the sound and cause that way cnt [Reply]  [No Email]
Adirondack case guy 09-21-2012 13:26:00 74.69.160.79 Report to Moderator	Re: case 430 hydraulic / 90 weight oil in reply to Case Nutty 1660, 09-21-2012 10:30:49   To elaborate a bit on what Bro. posted, here are two pics. #1 a 430 model which never had a torque converter drive, COM as on decal on pic #2. To distinguish a 430 from bigger models 530/630, 400/600Bs which did have COM, check these phisical features. Shell fenders, not connected to floor boards, and an undermounted clutch pedal, rather than a suspended inching spool pedal connected to a hyd control valve, and full fenders bolted to the floorboards. The 430 hood is narrower and goes back and flanks the dash Chances are that the 3pt piston seals were leaking, and rather than replacing the seals, someone cobed in the hose under the trans. (Instead of fixing the latch on the barn door they built a fence around the barn) The rear end should have EP 85/90 in it. The torque tube should be filled with Hytran. As Bro said oil could also transfer through bad internal seals, but unlikely. As for the noise, If you are lucky you may be able reshim the diffirential, (brake shaft preload? ring and pinion backlash), but if the tractor is houred up and rear has been contaminated with hyd oil for a long time the gears could be flakeing or chipped as mentioned. The pictures where very clear and #1 picture looks exactly like this one in my barn. I'm going to remove the added hose, put in new drain plugs, service with proper fluids. I have 20 acres to cut (a paying neighbor). I have to use this tractor, because my IH 185 loboy is in the procces of being put back into working condition. You should have seen it when I picked it up. I have a Yanmar 155d also, but its too small for 20 acres of cutting. Again much appreciated God Bless [Reply]  [No Email]

If rear is overfilling, and hydraulics are dropping, I would say that the 3pt piston seals are leaking. Case wants a fortune for a replacement piston and seal assy., but a good hydraulic shop can provide you with the sealing rings only for a fraction of the cost. It took all day, with a couple of trips to Advanced auto and the shop of a friend of mine.The fluids are in and now the observation time. Loran where does the tach hook up to?
