Hello all, wondering about taking advantage of the 70 acres of workable land on our family farm and possibly buying a dependable Diesel tractor to pull a set of disks, packers, levellers. Not sure whether to get an older 1066 with no cab or say go to something along the lines of a 3288..it has to be red as my late Father would roll over if I rolled anything Green in the shed..We primarily rotate corn, beans, and wheat, but not sure if i need to spend the extra money on 4 wheel drive thinking maybe duals might do....Please make suggestions and how wide of disks i can pull with suggested tractor and what equipment I should look at purchasing to compliment disks..thank you |

| | A 1066 is a good tractor You might think 1086 with a cab instead. I farm about the same amount of ground and the cost of repair and maintaining equipment is getting out of hand. I own 930 cases because i can fix them myself I know you want red but how about a cousin an 1175 case. i would want the 1175 case solid tractor with standard 8sp transmission |

| in my area for the amount of ground you are talking a 100hp tractor would do the job easy, I highly recomend the duals for fuel conservation less compaction and just better performance, although I am not a red tractor man a 1066 is a good fuel effecient tractor with parts readily available, here if talking a offset disc we figuare 10hp a foot avaerage a tandeum 2 foot per hp, myself I still like a mowboard plow but with these high fuel cost's I have dialed back to every 3-5 years using one and have some what good luck with a chisel plow running muiltiple passes and with a 1066 a 10-12' unit should work well if you work 4"-8" a pass depth, this is with points on it and for weed control here any way I install sweeps, if you continuis crop or chemical summer fallow you may not need to go this way, thats my two cents cnt |
