Picked up the new Case D this evening and I can't find a dipstick anywhere. How do you check the oil level? Do I need to pull one of the small plugs at the bottom of the block?

This is what I did on a 50 DC to ease checking the oil: I welded a small pipe on a slant into the rear hand hole cover, found a dip stick from another eng. to fit the pipe. Marked it to match the pipe plug levels. It could be reached from the top when a mounted picker was on it . Sure beat sliding in under the picker to use the check plugs. I did this about 1958 or so, worked great. clint

And don"t forget to clean the oil screen on the other side when you change the oil. It"s the triangle plate on the bottom side of the motor. Undo the bolts, pull the screen out, (it"s a long metal tube that fits into the oil pump). You"ll be amazed how much sludge is on that thing.

The two small plugs, top one is full mark, lower is 1 quart low. Old DC engines should have a hand cover taken off and ciean the oil pan out. Cast iron pan makes for condensation and lots of sludge!
