I am willing to help you with the details if there is a problem. Actually, there is one potential problem that I can see right away. Did the place that re-wied your generator tell you if they re-wired it for positive or negative ground? The original was positive ground, and thus, the original wiring diagram is for positive ground. If they did not tell you, then you can remove the cover from the voltage regulator and look at the color of the insulation on the regulator coil. I think that copper is for positive ground and silver is for negative ground.

You staying with the factory 6 volts or upgrading to 12 volts?? Makes a big difference as to the wiring diagram. If 12 volts to me at least it is super simple but 6 volts I do not do

In my humble opinion change to 12 volts is a downgrade, not an upgrade.

I agree with old. In the 50"s I crank started a "46 or "47 VAI no less than 2 x day from about Oct to Apr for 4 years carrying milk cans out to the paved road loading dock in the early morning and picking up the mt"s every night 6 days a week.

Six volt simply was inadequate for reliable starting during the PA winters. Yes we knew all about wire sizes, clean connections, and retarded timing for easier starting. The tractor started right up with the crank.

The reason it is an upgrade is because it cost less to maintain and the parts are cheaper and easier to buy. 6 volt systems are hard to keep up and the battery is harder to find and now days also hard to find a 6 volt charger

6 volt batteries and chargers are readly available. In most cases it is cheaper to fix what is wrong than change, for example larger wires and clean joints. If I see a tractor for sale that has been changed to 12 volts I walk away because in most cases it was just to mask something that is wrong.

Again I do not agree with you and all my tractor have been set up for 12 volts due to the fact I then only need one size battery to fit every thing I have. 99% of the time when I get a tractor the charging system does not work and it is in fact cheaper for me to switch to 12 volts then to fix the old generator system or at least in this area it is since to have a generator rebuilt will cost me well over $100 and I can switch for less then that

I read and really enjoy reading all your posts and I agree with most of them, however on this I respectfully have to disagree.

Well the is your choice. O go with 12 volts for many reasons. #1 I only have a 12 volt charger #2 cheaper in the long run #3 I do not have to have 2 or 3 different size/volt batteries on hand. Plus when you have as many machines as I have it is nice to not have to have a battery for them all
