I have just found out that the motor I took in to be rebuilt has cracks in the block and I am in need of a 188 D or 207 D motor. I understand that combines and forklifts have this motor, but do not know what the model numbers are that have these. Can anybody help me with the numbers of combines or forklifts that I may be able to find for a motor. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. I have a 530D construction king with a model 32 loader and backhoe.

Thanks!

Most mechanics around here don't have the means to do engine machine work. Ask him for the block, take it to a reputable engine machine shop and get their opinion.

A while back I had a VAC block pinned on the bottom sleeve holes and it was cheaper than another engine, supposes to be stronger than the block itself.

Where are the cracks? I've seen some pretty serious cracks repaired to the point you'd never know they were there.

I was told the cracks are around the top of the cylinder bore where the sleeves lock into place

Counterbore repairs are available for most
engines. If it is cracked between the bores ,
welding and remachining is an option ,also
lower bore repairs are available. I have made
and installed lowers and bought and installed
the counterbore repairs.

I am not knowledgable about welding of blocks, the mechanic doing the job told me we needed another block, I can discuss this with him, where are you located?

Granted, it would be a lot easier to find another block and simply swap them out. However, it would probably be cheaper to repair and, as pointed out, it will probably be stronger if done by the right person. It wouldn't be hard to find a 530 motor, problem might be you'd have to buy the entire tractor to get the motor and then you might get another motor with cracks. If the mechanic you're working with doesn't want to do the job, find another. Just my humble opinion.

by the way, is the engine already apart and disconnected from the tractor, or are they still bolted together?

You might want to do a google image search on cracked block repair. That will at least let you see and read what needs to be done. These kinds of repairs used to be very popular, especially during WW2 when parts were hard to come by. Search for something like "Tractor engine block repair" or "crack repair in tractor engine block." That should at least get you into the neighborhood.
