Started the old girl last Sat. eve. and she has been popppin and sputterin ever since. It really sounds like it is only running on 2 or 3. If I wanted a green one I would have a green one. Any suggestions? I have already pulled carb off and cleaned it the best that I can. That didn't change a thing. I am thinking that maybe a new set of plugs/wires are in order. If so how about any suggestions on what to put in. It has a Pertronix electronic ignition so I believe that it should handle something a little hotter am I right? Does a hotter plug really make a difference. This tractor isn't a field tractor. It is pulled about 8 or 10 times a year and used in parades. Thanks for the help. Not trying to hi-jack the post below this one. |

| Check your pushrods. I have a DV that sits alot and sometimes the valves stick. When I turn it over after sitting awhile (say 6 months or so) the pushrods will occasionally bend on a stuck valve. I'm not sure a compression check will properly see this. If a valve is stuck open, yeah, it'll show up but if you have an exhaust valve stuck shut it might not. I don't know why the valves stick on it but it runs so I'm not in a big hurry to pull the head and find out. I just tap the pushrods straight, install and adjust the lash and reinstall the valve cover and hood. Takes about 15 minutes and it runs good again.Ken in AZ |

| I had a couple of spark plugs in my D that did not have 5 hours on them and went belly up. New plugs, problem solved. |

| 386 autolites have a resitor in them but we run them in our dcs and they do a great job. I have heard of the 3116 auto lites are suppose to be no resistor plugs but havent tried those. But dont use champion or nkgs they wont run worth a hoot. |

| My LA runs like that, has bad manifold gaskets and sucks too much air. |

| | A easy first check is to crank the engine with the ignition off. Does is go over compression evenly for all cylinders? If a valve is stuck open, it will not go over compression evenly. Another easy check--- are the plug wires going to the correct cylinder? |

| | Check to see if they are Champion plugs. I had a plug on my 630 that just quit working and it was a rather new plug. I found out that Champion has had severe quality problems the past several years. Probably having them made in China or India. If they are Champions get yourself a set of new AC plugs for it. Jim |

| The first place to check on any engine when it does that is the plugs and have a look see what they look like they will tell you what is wrong. Then check for spark on them all. If there was a problem with the carb it would not run at all or poorly on all |
