I thought I would pass this tidbit on to you guys about tire Pressure. I have 12.4-38 rear Firestone"s on my 49 SC. They have about 800 miles on them and are starting to show signs of washout of the trailing edge of the tread. I had the opportunity to have have the tractor scaled for weight by Titan Tire at the WHO Tractor ride. Rear single axle weight was 1,740 lbs on the rear and front end weight was 490 lbs. They recommended 12 lbs of air in the rears and 24 lbs on the front tires. I was running considerably higher pressure on all tires which is good for trailering. I have read several discussion forums about pavement verses gravel. What are your thoughts on the biggest factor relating to tire wear? |

| Pavement really grinds the tread off tractor tires, especially when there new and soft, I would say 12 psi is about right for a non working tractor just running around. If you are just starting to notice wear at 800 miles, your tires are doing a very good job. Put new tires on a tractor years back and used it to pull gravity boxes full of beans to the elevator in the fall, about twelve miles round trip, those new tires had strings of rubber hanging off the back of the bars by the second trip, after they wore and settled in they were fine. |
